Box coolers
Invented by NRF in 1959, the box cooler is a compact, environmentally friendly marine cooling system, engineered for long-term use in demanding conditions.
Efficient cooling
Every NRF box cooler is designed and built in-house to fit your vessel, installation space, and thermal demands. Installed in the sea chest, its U-shaped tube bundle uses natural seawater circulation to transfer heat, requiring no pumps and minimal maintenance. Built to perform under all conditions, our box coolers consistently deliver high cooling capacity and trouble-free operation.
Key features:
- Compact and easy to install
- Fully customisable to your requirements
- No moving parts
- High cooling capacity
- Long service life
- Suitable for all vessel types

Protective Ad-Ons
Over time, your box cooler will get some marine life attached to it. With the proper add-ons the life of your box cooler can be significantly extended. NRF offers different protective devices that can help prevent the formation of marine fouling in your box cooler which is detrimental to its thermal performance.
The ICAF (Impressed Current Anti-Fouling) System effectively prevents biological fouling on box coolers by releasing copper ions through controlled electrical currents. This process keeps the system clean and efficient by deterring marine growth. Over time, the ions return to a harmless state, minimizing environmental impact while reducing maintenance and extending equipment lifespan.
