Turbochargers

The function

Turbochargers increase engine power and torque by using energy from the exhaust gases to drive a turbine. The turbine is connected by a common shaft to a compressor, which draws in and compresses the intake air before delivering it to the engine’s cylinders. By increasing the air pressure and density, more oxygen becomes available for combustion. This allows the engine to burn more fuel efficiently and generate greater power without increasing engine displacement.

Turbocharging enables smaller engines to deliver performance comparable to larger naturally aspirated engines. When combined with optimised engine management and combustion systems, it can improve fuel efficiency and help reduce emissions. Turbochargers therefore play an important role in modern engine design, supporting higher torque output, improved acceleration and efficient engine operation.

Testing and Validation Procedure

NRF turbochargers undergo extensive testing at our European testing facilities using specialized equipment to ensure compliance with the highest quality standards. Performance is verified by measuring boost pressure, air mass flow, pressure ratio, efficiency and rotor speed. In addition, the operation of the compressor and turbine is evaluated. These tests confirm that each turbocharger meets the specified technical requirements and performance specifications.

Comprehensive durability testing, thermal cycling tests, rotor balancing checks, overspeed tests and NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) assessments are conducted to evaluate long-term reliability, even under demanding operating conditions. This extensive validation process contributes to consistent performance, reliable operation and a long service life for NRF turbochargers.

Easy Fit

NRF turbochargers come with the necessary installation components included in the packaging, such as gaskets, studs, bolts and an oil syringe, depending on the application. This means workshops have the essential parts readily available for a correct and efficient turbocharger replacement, without the need to source additional components separately.

EasyFit simplifies the installation process, helps reduce repair times and minimises the risk of delays caused by missing parts. By saving time and reducing installation costs, EasyFit helps workshops work more efficiently and deliver a reliable repair, ultimately contributing to higher customer satisfaction.
