Receiver Driers
The function
The receiver drier is a key component in a truck’s air conditioning system that stores and filters refrigerant. It is typically located between the condenser and the expansion valve, where it receives liquid refrigerant. Its main function is to remove moisture, dirt, and contaminants from the refrigerant using a desiccant material, ensuring the system operates cleanly and efficiently.
In heavy-duty trucks, the receiver drier also acts as a temporary storage tank for liquid refrigerant, helping maintain a steady flow to the evaporator. By removing moisture, it prevents ice formation and corrosion inside the AC system, which can cause serious damage over time. A properly functioning receiver drier improves cooling performance, protects system components, and is usually replaced whenever the AC system is opened for repairs.
