The function

A/C compressors circulate refrigerant through the air conditioning system. Driven by the engine, they compress the refrigerant and move it through the condenser and evaporator, enabling heat transfer and maintaining a cool interior.

An electric compressor performs the same function but is powered by an electric motor instead of the engine. This allows cooling even when the combustion engine is off, ensuring efficient and continuous climate control in hybrid and fully electric systems.
