2025: likely Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) will grow faster than Full Electric (BEV)
For a large group of current ICE car drivers, Full Electric is still “a bridge too far”. Considering their next step, Plug-in Hybrid is for those buying new cars already a big leap into e-mobility. BYD has a full range of Hybrids, while TESLA only offers BEV. Striking: in 2024 BYD overtook TESLA already as the global nr. one e-mobility car producer. Perhaps the magic word for 2025 will be ”Plug-in Hybrid”!
IS BYD the big Game Changer in 2025 with its full range of Plug-in Hybrids?
All-in it is quite likely that BYD turns out to be the final Game Changer in 2025 with its PHEV range. BYD can really jump forward in 2025, being ready to produce, to ship (with its own mega-ship Enterprise-1, capacity 7.000 cars) and to deliver. BYD has planned this year to start producing in Europe (Hungary) and has already created a sales network. The Euro-7 emission legislation, valid from July 1th 2025, will surely help to grow Hybrid and EV.
BYD overtook TESLA already in 2024 boosted by the sales in Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)
BYD is now China’s largest manufacturer of EVs, it delivered some 4.25 million, a growth of more than 41 percent compared to 2023. However in a different mix: 1.76 million BEVs (only 30,000 fewer than TESLA). BYD has lined up a model range with Plug-ins; TESLA sticks to Full Electric only.
This year we can expect many new models. From BYD and other, new brands. For more than 10 reasons BYD could turn out to be the great winner of the (PH)EV battle in Europe!
